"A Canary For One", "In Another Country", and "The Killers", three short stories in Scribner's Magazine for March and April 1927; Scribner's Magazine Volume LXXXI Nos. 1-6 January-June 1927

Scribner's: NY 1927 Illus., 10 x 7", black buckram, gilt spine lettering, 706pp. Ex-library, bound without magazine covers and ads, covers worn, scratched, bumped spine tips and corners, contents have occasional soiling and spotting, edge tears, one Hemingway article is archivally repaired and missing small piece out of one margin, else contents good. The first appearance for "Canary" and "Country". Issues include two short stories written and illustrated by Will James, Edward Hopper illustrations in Downing's "The Distance to Casper", articles on Grover Cleveland, a brief account of a rum runner. There is an interesting story by John J. Niles "More Singing Soldiers" about the contribution of music by the African-American Soldiers during WWI. An excerpt: "As far as possible the colored soldiers in the World War introduced a little music into everything they did- be it marching, digging, cooking...longing for home, unloading chips...I have here recorded some of the incidental music of the negro soldiers.
