The Whig Almanac and United States Register for 1850

Greely & McElrath: New York 1850 7.25 x 4.75", light blue printed wraps, 64pp. Stained (covers heavily, contents lightly), covers have a few tears, spine lacking the top one third and small area of lower corner which also affects a few pages, except for the light staining contents are good to very good. In the section "The Last Session of Congress" it is noted that "Slavery, and its effects on society, were their principal themes." From the report (in part): "Involving as it did the question, whether slavery should be planted on the banks of the Pacific Ocean, as it has been in Texas, so that slaves might be carried to New Mexico and California as an article of traffic, and they and their posterity held in perpetual bondage, to the dis-couragement of free labor, but the a federal representation which should be the badge of freedom..."
