The American Woods: Exhibited by Actual Specimens and with Copious Explanatory Text...Part I. Representing Twenty-Five Species by Twenty-Seven Sets of Sections

Publ. by Author: Lowville, NY 1888 Part 1 (only). 9 x 6.25", green cloth portfolio, with 79pp (with index) softcover text and 28 cards (1-25 plus #7a and 7b, and a duplicate of #24) each holding three very thin cuts of the actual wood (transverse, radial and tangential sections), in a cloth and marbled-boards box with metal clasp and rivets at corners; the portfolio is rubbed and wrinkled with extremity wear and cracking to the internal hinges, the softcover book is a little toned with a little spot on the foredge, offsetting from wood sections on back cover, and a little tear at the bottom of the spine else very nicely preserved. The cards with the wood samples are a bit rubbed, and some of the samples have cracked or have minor holes due to the shrinking of these old, very thin slices of wood. Part One only.
