CPT Pilot Rating Book dated March 1943 belonging to Robert K. Buelk USNR, who was taking pilot training at Brees Field, Laramie, Wyoming

Laramie 1943 Oblong 5.25 x 8.25", printed wraps, unpaginated. Covers creased and soiled. First page has offsetting, light creasing to corners else good to very good condition. Just over half of the rating sheets are filled in, March 21-April 29, 1943. Attatched to the inside front cover is a black and white photograph of a small plane. Enclosed in the book are two letters, one from Robert Buelk to his parents in Detroit, postmarked March 12, 1943, a chatty letter telling them his classes. The second letter, also addressed to his parents, postmarked May 10, 1944 is from a friend and fellow soldier, LaMont Clay. He thanks them for a previous letter and tells them details of the accident that took their son's life. Their "liberty" plans were cancelled so they picked up an officer and dropped him off at Rodd Field. On the way back to town Buelk failed to negotiate a curve in the road, killing himself and severely injuring his passenger Clay.
