The Grandmothers: A Family Portrait

Harper & Brothers: NY 1927 7.75 x 5.25", gilt-lettered black cloth, 388pp, a heavily worn copy, extremities bumped and fraying, hinges loose, inner hinges cracked, old gluestains on endpapers and title page near gutter, old newspaper clipping pasted onto page opposite title page, ink writing on front fly (from author?) pp loose and toned- a rather poor copy of this early printing ("G-B"). INSCRIBED "For Hazel Herman and old, infrequent, though well-matched friend, and my most successful least truthful book from...the grandmothers' grandson." AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Westcott had crossed out Hazel's last name, also his last name and his first attempt at her first name. Ink note at the bottom of the page states "Glenway was already ill and becoming forgetful when he wrote the above. H. A few weeks later he was dead." Also included is a 7 x 4.75" b/w photo of an older Westcott standing under a tree in the snow, with small stain on right bottom corner of image, and brown glue stains along one margin on rear.
