Mary Frances "May" Aufderheide Kaufman, 1888-1972, was one of the best known of the female ragtime composers. She was born in Indianapolis in a well-to-do family who made sure she received a good education especially in art and music. The first of her many ragtime pieces was the "Dusty Rag" in 1908 which she arranged to get published, but only locally. Her father, John H. Aufderheide, created a music publishing company that same year which helped to boost the circulation of this piece of music and other ones that she would compose. Sold as is. Scarce.
