COON COON COON.

Sol Bloom: Chicago 1901 14 x 10.5, pict wraps, unpag (8 pp including covers). Covers have creasing, soiling, tears, ink erasure on upper corner, spine split and tape repaired, contents toned, creased with an edge tears else good. On front cover "Introduced and Sung by Lew Dockstader" with portrait of a young white man with the caption "As Sung by Eddie Leonard" and below that are three "coons" in red and green on green background. Lew Dockstader, 1856-1924, was the best known of all the black face minstrel show performers, both as a solo artist and in a troupe. He was part of the Dockstader Brothers, then Dockstader's Minstrels and later in Primrose & Dockstader's Minstrels. Eddie Leonard was in one of Dockstader's troupes in the 1890s. Another member of this "minstrel family" was Al Jolson who performed with them from 1908-1909. Scarce. As is.
