Cover has creasing, soiling, rubbing, tiny tears at staples, staples rusty, contents have toning, scattered light staining, a few margin tears, 20 loose pages including centerfold with staples still attached (an insert?), last page of this section has an abrasion as does the facing page (stuck together at one time?) else good. Articles include a history of both circuses, animal menagerie, their school for animals, Miss Mabel Stark animal trainer. Full page b&w photographs of Berta Beeson, Silbon Sisters, Mary Ann Bevan "World’s Homeliest Woman" and one promoting "The Congress of Little People" showing a tall person next to a little person who is standing on a chair. Season 1923 promotes such acts as the 3 Richter Sisters, Emil Pallenberg, Capt. Ricardo, the Ernestos, Pichianis Troupe, Berta Beeson, Siegrista-Silbon Troupe and one of the big draws, Lillian Leitzel. She is described in the program as 'queen of the aerial gymnasts . . . suspended at dizzy heights this miniature marvel of midair . . . casting her body over her own shoulder scores of times, without pause!" There are three full page b&w photographs of her, one in her Dressing Tent and the others where she poses in three different costumes. Plus a full page ad where she endorses "Mum" for personal dainties. Enclosed in the magazine is a typed letter dated 1983 in which the sender says that this program (described above) is being sent to the recipient compliments of a friend and that he himself is in love with Miss Lillian Leitzel. She continued to perform in various circuses until 1931 when a rope snapped and she fell to her death. Ads in b&w for Aunt Jemima and Coca Cola. Full color back cover ads for Chesterfield cigarettes and Kelly-Springfield Tires. Lovely front cover illustration of a female equestrian in a red ballet costume appearing to leap onto the back of a white horse with the face of a smiling clown in the upper left corner
