Medal "Medal of the Veterans of the Spanish American War." Front of medal shows a left profile bust of Liberty beneath a crown of laurel, upper left side is a small five-pointed star with rays emanating from it and the words "Cuba Los Veteranos De La Guer

np dated 1898 but Silver, 1 1/2 diameter, attached to it is a blue and white vertical striped ribbon with a red triangle that has a white star in the center, ribbon is 2 x 1.25. Medal has light wear and scratches, ribbon has a few small spots, pin is missing the pin back else good. Reverse of medal reads: "First That the People of the Island of Cuba Are/And of Right Ought to be Free and Independent. From the Joint Resolution of April 20th, 1898," a shield and laurel leaves on the left side. Stored in small patterned paper covered box, oblong 2.25 x 4.5, torn, repaired, stained on bottom, pencil note. Printed on the top "Fabricado En Cuba. Antiguq Vilardebo Y Riera Taller Or Joybria Dragones 53 Habana," box dating to the late 1930s is from a well known goldsmith.
