Leather "Blood Chit" from the China-Burma-India Theatre of WWII. Oblong cream-colored leather with a 48-star United States flag on the top left half, Nationalist Chinese flag on the top right half, three and a half rows of characters below the flags.

np (China?) nd (1943-1945?) Oblong 7.5 x 9.5, light soiling, couple of pinholes with rust marks else very good. Blood Chits were created to assist the local allies in aiding downed pilots. The pilots carried these chits or they were sewn onto their jackets. The War Department Blood Chits were numbered, other Blood chits that were made by local craftsmen of leather, silk, rayon, cotton and paper were not numbered. Of these chits there were two versions, one used characters for "American" and one did not. This one has the characters for "American." Approximate translation for this Blood Chit: "This foreign person (American) has come to China to help in the war effort. Soldiers and civilians, one and all, should rescue, protect and provide him with medical care."
