Real Photo Postcard "Gasoline Motor Car, Ann Arbor R.R.", car shown is "Motor Car 4" made by the McKeen Motor Car Company. Postmarked "Owosso Mich 1914" (faint).

#16478, No photographer listed. Oblong 3.5 x 4.5, sky tinted a light blue. Postally used, light soiling, creasing and chipping, ink smears and small scratch, reverse is toned. Shows Motor Car 6 with the engineer at the window, brakeman on the stairs and other men either posing next to or on other sets of stairs. Written below "These cars are good for 60 miles per hour have room for 60 passengers and have room for freight," rest of message is unrelated. Although the name of the McKeen Motor Car Company is not shown, this car was manufactured by them and was in use starting in 1911. These gasoline powered motor cars were more cost conscious than steam trains and worked well on smaller rail lines, like Ann Arbor. The ones owned by the Ann Arbor Railroad were almost identical to the other McKeen cars except that they did not have the immediately recognizable porthole windows. The cars ran between Toledo, Ohio and Cadillac, Michigan and included in the various stops was Owosso. Scarce.
