Original Autograph Letter Signed by a Member of the 13th Michigan Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War.

Bowling Green (?) nd (1862) One sheet of lined patriotic stationery ("Camp Song of the 2d Indiana Brigade" with color vignette of soldier and American Flag) folded one with writing on four panels, each pane 8 x 5, darkened, folds, soiled, tearing at folds (esp spine), toning and minor staining at foredge, writing light, spelling not clear, hard to decipher. Saxton writes "Dear Friend . . . " and tells of eating beef soup in his tent, walking 125 miles (with 80 more to go), a battle with ". . . four hundred seshes against the four hundred [sic] northern men kild. . . " etc. The 13th fought in the Battle of Shiloh in March-April 1862. SWAF.
