Jenkins: NY 1910 Color frontis with tissue guard, text illustr, 10 x 6.5, brown cloth with gilt lettering and gilt and black decoration, front cover illustr, 324 pp. Covers are soiled, rubbed, corners and spine tips bumped and worn, light spotting to page edges, tissue guard toned, former owner's blindstamp, occasional light soiling and spotting. The blindstamp reads "The Property of James Gordon Bennett New York Herald Library." James Gordon Bennett Jr. (1841-1918) was son of the founder of the New York Herald, James Gordon Bennett (1795-1877). In 1867 he took over the management of the newspaper from his father, two years later he financed Henry Stanley's expedition to Africa to find David Livingstone. The younger Bennett was a well known sportsman who was involved in yachting; auto, air and balloon racing. He introduced polo in the United States in 1876 and built the original polo grounds in New York City in 1880. Very scarce book, even more so with the Bennett connection. FIRST EDITION.
