MANUSCRIPT SLAVE DOCUMENT.

William P. Courtney: King and Queen County, VA 1853-1854 1 page, 4 x 5, framed, blue paper mounted to white mat board with maroon matting, frame is 13.5 x 11.5, marbled pattern trimmed in black and gold with glass. Document very good, may have been removed, mat also very good, frame shows signs of wear, chipped/scratched/nicked and missing small pieces. Written on the paper is the name of William P. Courtney, lists 12 names of slaves over 16 (i.e., Thornton, Thornton Jr., Temple, Martha), one slave between 12 - 16 but no monetary value listed, also lists "horses 6 $300, 52 cattle, sheep and hogs $130, 2 carriages (?) $100, 2 watches $60, 1 clock $10, furniture $250." Taped to the back of the frame is a non-contemporary note that reads in part "Virginia Slave Document, 1853-1854 From King & Queen County, Va." William Pollard Courtney, born on December 25th, 1807 was a descendant of an early settler to King & Queen County, Robert Courtney.
