Nyal Company: Detroit 1916 Illustr, 7.5 x 5.25, pict boards, black lettering on brown spine, 224 + ads. Covers worn and rubbed with some staining, very shelfworn, corners and spine tips bumped and worn, inner hinges cracked, ink name stamps of J.H. Lintz and Son, Drug Store, Kenton, Ohio, text block cracked, toning, a few tears, offsetting mainly from a 1917 receipt from the Basinger jewelry store in Lima, Ohio, scattered staining else good. Janet McKenzie Hill was the editor of the Boston Cooking School magazine and prepared recipes for the book such as Green Peppers stuffed with Oysters, Jellied Turkey, Broiled Tripe with Bacon Rolls, Lima Bean Salad. The Nyal Company produced over-the-counter medicine which was widely distributed in the U.S. It was owned by Frederick Stearns and Co. of Detroit, a major pharmaceutical company. The ads at the back of the book list many of the Nyal/Stearns offerings, i.e. liver salt, prickly heat powder, worm wafers. Nice tie-in of food and drugs. FIRST EDITION.
