Typed Note Signed by Richard Wright aboard the SS Brazil, 1946.

At sea 1946 One page, 7.75 x 5.25, 25-line typed note, some soiling and toning and edge-wear, with pencil annotations at top. BOLDLY SIGNED AT BOTTOM BY AUTHOR RICHARD WRIGHT. Wright asks for return of "one square, flat box containing six photograph records. . . " and ". . . Eight (8) cartons of Camel cigarettes!" that had each been tagged: "Richard Wright, c/o Gertrude Stein, 5 rue Christine, Paris, France." "If seen, please take to Purser's Office." This was Wright's famous trip to France; he stayed in france, and became a citizen soon after. And, Stein was to pass away that year. In biographies of Wright, it is said that he met with African American soldiers on the ship who were not allowed to mix with the white soldiers; but the European travelers aboard treated the African-American soldiers better.
