Simba Wachuka was the militant arm of US (Us Black People), and organization formed in Los Angeles in 1965 after the Watts riot by Maulana Karenga. It is possible that this handbill was distributed during the "Third National Conference on Black Power" held in Philadelphia on August 29-Sept. 1, 1968, at the Church of the Advocate and was hosted by local Black clergy and community leaders. Maulana Karenga was one of the attendees as was Rosa Parks, Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown, Imamu Baraka, Jesse Jackson. More than 3,000 people attended. The Church of the Advocate, located at 18th and Diamond, was a few blocks from Broad Street, which was one of the main areas of activity for the Black separatist movement.
