Powell, Adam Clayton.

Typed one-page letter signed as U.S. Congressman to Charlotte Pomerantz, an editor at the left-wing publishing house, Marzani & Munsell, praising them for their just-published photographic essay on Harlem called "Harlem Stirs."

Washington DC 1966 10 x 8, congressional letterhead. Fold creases, upper left corner creased with removal marks and tiny bit of soiling, else good. From the letter: "Harlem's beauty and its agony were never more lovingly portrayed than in 'Harlem Stirs' . . . Harlem can become the greater community and that finer neighborhood of humanity if it can arouse its citizens to care." Powell was congressional representative for Harlem for 25 years. Signed Adam C. Powell in blue marker.
