Five typed letters signed by Ramon F. Adams on his own stationery to Donald D. Teet, publisher of The Black Letter Press of Grand Rapids, Michigan, regarding Adams writing the introduction to Teets' reprint of W.S. James' "Cow-Boy Life in Texas OR 27 Year

Dallas 1973 Cream, 10.5 x 7.25, comes with only three envelopes, oblong 4 x 7.5. Fold creases, light wear, one letter has a small tear, envelopes have small tears from being opened else very good. The first letter, dated March 1, 1973, Adams says he will attempt an introduction but he needs to do more research since he no longer has his huge library; on March 13 he says he has not heard back from Teets and which book is he planning to reprint "27 Years a Mavrick" or "Cow-Boy Life in Texas"; on March 14 he asks for a xerox of the title page and binding to be sent to him, hints about payment to do the introduction and again whether Teets has the first edition "27 Years a Mavrick" or the later edition of "Cow-Boy Life in Texas, Or 27 Years a Mavrick"; on March 20, Adams states again that "27 Years" is the first edition and that he was hoping Teets' copy was a first and wished to know if it was hb or pb and did it have three different illustrations on the front cover; lastly, on April 24, he states that he has not received the xeroxes yet and since he hasn't heard from him he will have to decline the offer because he has two projects of his own that need completing. (1893). 34 illustr, 7.75 x 5.25, blue cloth with black illustr on front cover of a man beside a horse, Indian with a tomahawk and a train robbery, 213 pp. Bookplate of C.D. Moore, text block toned, corners gently bumped, extremities rubbed else ok. Even though title page lists "over fifty illustrations" there are only 34. Donald D. Teets, 1929-2010, opened a used and rare bookstore in Grand Rapids and then in mid-1970s established The Black Letter Press to reprint rare titles. Ramon F. Adams, 1889-1976, was a well respected and noted Western author and bibliographer. More of the correspondence between Adams and Teets is part of the Ramon Adams Collection at the Dallas Public Library.
