REPORT OF THE COMMISSIONER OF PATENTS FOR THE YEAR 1849. Part I. Arts and Manufacturers [contains Abraham Lincoln's patent and three forged signatures].

Office of Printers to House of Reps: Washington 1850 Six fish and bird plates, 9 x 5.75, half leather; marbled boards, 626 pp, covers very worn, top of spine badly chipped, inner hinges cracked, text block toned, foxed and stained at top, in red cloth dust jacket (worn and soiled), and custom-made leather-backed red cloth slipcase, with top detached (but present), worn and darkened. Lincoln's patent (for lifting vessels over shoals) is listed in the indices on pp 57 and 96; his patent is described on page 262. What makes this patent report unique are THREE FORGED SIGNATURES OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN: on the title page is "A. Lincoln 1851," on front paste-down is "A. Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois," and on the listing on page 262 is "A. Lincoln, May 22, 1850," with ink box encircling the listing (with ink shadow on opposite page).
