Printed Ships Insurance Document for the schooner "Nancy" traveling from Warren, Rhode Island to North Carolina, dated 14 April 1809, cargo insured for $330.00 from the Warren Insurance Company.

Nath. Phillips Co, printer: Warren, Rhode Island. 1809 19 x 14.25, 1 page, printed on one side only with signatures and notes on both sides. Fold creases, almost detached at center fold, chipping, light staining and scattered light spotting. Cargo details not listed. Ship owners like Clark Parker who owned the "Nancy" knew that an unexpected storm could destroy the ship and its cargo or the vessel could be taken over by French or British privateers so insurance was essential. Insurance was costly for American ships until after the War of 1812 when the United States became a dominant naval power. Ship's master was Benjamin Brayton.
