J. Disturnell: NY 1857 Eleven of 12 called-for illustrations, vignettes blindstamped blue cloth, gilt lettering, gilt illustr on spine, 364 pp + ads. Covers very well worn and rubbed, corners bumped and worn, lacks spine tips, text block detached from front cover, rear inner hinge badly cracked, minor staining and chipping, a few small edge tears, some rough cut pages, lacks the one page map (folding map is present), majority of contents are clean and good. An excerpt on the description of Mackinac Island: "The whole of Mackinac is deeply interesting to the scientific explorer, as well as to the seeker of health and pleasure . . . Other picturesque objects of great interest . . . occur at every turn on roving about this enchanting island, where the pure, bracing air and clear waters afford a pleasurable sensation, difficult to be described, unless visited and enjoyed."
