Hill, Draper.

Original Christmas Card Artwork by the late Detroit News cartoonist Draper Hill for his friend, esteemed Detroit bookselller and moose lover, Thomas Schlientz, moose-themed per usual.

Detroit 1995 24 x 17.5, black lettering and black and tan coloring against a white background. Fold crease, soiling on reverse else very good. Divided into four sections, front and back and interior. Thomas "Tommy" Schlientz had Draper Hill do his annual Christmas card which was always moose-themed. In this one there are two moose illustrations: Tommy and the moose holding up a large card, the moose saying "Might We Suggest and on the card "Merry Crismoose Tom Schlientz." The other moose had his head through a wreath and is wearing a Santa hat, above the antlers "God Rest Ye Merrie Schlientzlemen," the moose says "Yea, Verily, Yea" and below the wreath "Yet Another Moosemark?" Includes a self-portrait of Draper at his drawing board surrounded by waste baskets that read "Bad Ideas," "Worse Ideas," "Don't Ask," "Puns" and "Fa-la-la-la-la . . . Signed and dated by Draper Hills. Neither Draper nor Tommy, our beloved longtime manager, are with us anymore and they are sadly missed. Unique item.
