Mencken, H.L.

Typed Letter Signed by HL Mencken to [Sherry] Mangan.

Baltimore, MD nd 5.5 x 8.5, on Mencken's 1542 Hollins St stationery, folds, spotting, edge-tears, ink spots, folds reinforced on reverse with clear cello tape. Short note: "Dear Mr. Mangan: I shall make a special pilgrimage to Cambridge some day to see that holy relic. A few prayers over it should surely improve one's piano technic. I am sorry I didn't make that piano-player more like Ignace. I had in mind one Rosenauer, who later drank himself to death. I'll be glad to send you some names when your Papini book is ready. But I include to believe that Papini's idiotic "Life of Christ" has ruined him in America. Sincerely yours . . . " Dated April 27, no year. Included is a "Bound Proof" copy of the 1987 printing of Sherry Mangan's BLACKNESS OF A WHITE NIGHT, Stories & Poems, with covers rudely torn off, spotting, etc. Mangan was an author, printer, reporter (for Time and Life) and Trotsky follower. The lot . . .
