Pomeroy and Col 1855 7.5 x 4.5, blindstamped brown cloth, gilt lettering on front cover, 168 pp. Covers sunned, lettering a little faded, corners and spine tips bumped, worn and fraying, spine cocked, a few signatures a little loose, foxing, soiling, creased corners. Book is divided into three sections: "Maxims," "Art of Politeness and Good Breeding" and "Bashfulness, Awkwardness, and Diffidence." From the "Maxims:" "Honesty is praised and starved," "Praise without profit, puts little in the pocket" and "Great defects only belong to great men." An early Detroit imprint. Scarce. FIRST ED.
