ESSAYS FOR SUMMER HOURS.

Hilliard, Gray and Co: Boston 1842 Illustr, 7 x 4.5, embossed brown cloth, 250 pp, covers worn, ink-spotted and stained, outer hinges torn, very loose copy, contents spotted and foxed and finger soiled, with ink bookstamp from Underhill & Co. in Detroit. Second Ed. Lanman wrote an early, popular history of Michigan in 1839. In this volume, he writes about his home in Michigan, among other topics. Scarce. Inside the back cover is a pencil inscription that reads "William C. Bryant. Poet Laureate. NY City," but it appears to be a forgery.
