Autograph Letter Signed with Good Civil War Content, and Mention of Meeting with Lincoln.

np (Gettysburg, PA?) 1927 Ten page letter, oblong 5.5 x 9, written in blue ink on plain paper, mounted at top and affixed to typed transcript, creased, transcript a bit browned, with removal marks at left margin, mounting paper sometimes rough, but still a legible and interesting letter. Detailed account of Foster entering service in Tiffin, OH, being wounded at Cold Harbor, and transferring to the 30th U.S. Colored Troops as 2nd Lieutenant; he writes about Lincoln: ". . . in pleasant weather we had visitors of note from Washington nearly every day, to witness our evening 'dress parade.' Mr. Lincoln or his lovely little wife were there frequently. I met him at the White House, and the last time I saw him was in the Fall of 1862. . . "
