The Bancroft Co: Chicago 1893 Five volumes. Hundreds of b&w illustr, 16 x 12, limp morocco covers with gilt lettering, 1-178, 179-398, 399-608, 609-800, 801-1000 (including index). Covers fair (worn, torn, chipping, peeling, dried saddle soap ? on covers), contents have light soiling and creasing, a few edge tears else good/very good. In depth description of how the fair came to be, its construction, the buildings and exhibits, etc. Photos show the grounds being dug up, buildings being constructed, all the exteriors and interiors, canals and lagoons, moonlight on the Grand Basin, the Grand Plaisance, overviews of the grounds, the Ferris Wheel being built, the elegant fountain, etc. etc. A wonderful set.
