Webster & Co: NY 1887 Photo frontis, illustr, 9.25 x 6, gilt decorated green cloth, 678 pp with index, covers quite worn and loose, extremities bumped and fraying, inner hinges cracked, contents toned and loose. A rough copy but with the pencil signature and inscription of "Charles F. Bates, Col. USA Retired, 33 Park Ave, Bronxville, NY" with his many pencil notes on front and rear endpapers. Col. Bates was an expert on Custer; he wrote the book, "Custer's Indian Battles." Custer is mentioned by McClellan in this book.
