Handwritten Letter on the Letterhead of the Commissioner of Immigration for Michigan, 1 Moffat Building, Detroit, to "Everett" from "H.W.F." regarding the completion of a dock.

Detroit Jan 20th, 1885 10.5 x 8, lined. Light soiling, fold creases, couple of small tears else very good. From the letter: "I hope that you have the dock done before it thaws. I hope the men with teams will take supplies from the store and be patient -- about money due them. Times are very hard here and money is close . . . We may get a steam barge as Boynton has a chance to sell some land for a barge. . . that will carry about 100 cords of wood." Mentions a Mr. Scripps (owner of The Detroit Evening News?) owning 40 shares (for?) and that "he would like to come in." Needs a bit more research on who Everett and H.W.F. are.
