Gebbie & Barrie: Philadelphia 1876 Illustr: Volume I. 46 steel engravings (including unlisted frontis) plus 172 wood engravings for a total of 218; Volume II. 1 copper engraving plus 436 illustr (including 1 unlisted vignette) for a total of 437; Volume III. 1 steel engraving plus 335 illustr for a total of 336; 11.5 x 8.5, full tan calf, highly gilt blind stamped decorations on covers, spine, edges and inner dentelles, each volume has two spine labels: one in red for title of the series and one in green for volume title, gilt lettering, all edges gilt; xii, 366; x, 521; clxxxvi, 375. Covers have light soiling, rubbing and scuffing, corners lightly bumped and worn, spines are darkened, wear near top and bottom, rubbing (leather rubbed in a few small areas), leather cracking, light scratches to gilt edges, endpapers mottled (glue stains) and have offsetting from bookplates (one still present), volume has scattered light spotting and even less in the other two volumes else contents fine. Absolutely gorgeous set, with a total of almost 1,000 illustrations.
