Framed Typed Letter signed from San Francisco Mayor James Rolph, a member of the Herbert Hoover California Reception Committee to a Mr. Erwin Hirschfelder, asking him to be part of the group welcoming Mr. Hoover to San Francisco.

San Francisco July 12, 1928 Frame is 12 x 7.5, with glass, letter is approximately 8.5 x 6.5 (not examined out of frame) and a cream colored satin ribbon with the lettering "Herbert Hoover California Reception Committee." Frame has scratches, abrasions, split along part of the top edge, backing paper is torn, letter appears to be in good condition, light spotting to ribbon. "Honorable Herbert Hoover. . . is expected in San Francisco on or about July 20th . . . I suggest that you meet with others of a distinguished escort . . . Further details and reception badge will be forwarded to you upon receipte of your acceptance. . ." The winner of the 1929 presidential election, Herbert Hoover, received 444 electoral votes to his Democratic opponent, Alfred E. Smith's 87 electoral votes.
