Lippincott, Grambo & Co: Philadelphia 1854 Illustr including foldouts, 9.5 x 6, brown embossed cloth, 738 pp with Reference & Notes, plus foldout chart on Exodus genealogy, covers very worn, extremities bumped, spine ends bumped and chipped (top edge repaired), hinges loose, contents browned and heavily spotted, Exodus folding plate torn at folds, still a decent copy. THEODORE LYMAN'S COPY, signed by him on front fly, adding "Cambridge 1855"; Lyman graduated from Harvard in 1855, and then studied with Prof Louis Agassiz, whose mounted photographic portrait is included herein (with ink identification name below portrait on mount). Besides being an important marine scientist, he was General Meade's ADC in the Civil War, and a US Rep for one term. Sixth ed.
