Kienzle, William X.

DEATH WEARS A RED HAT.

Andrews & McMeel, Inc: Kansas City, NY, Washington 1980 9.5 x 6, dark blue boards w/ dust jacket, 304 pp. Couple of corners lightly bumped, bookplate and business card affixed to front pastedown, rear free endpaper creased, paper clip on p 25/26 else very good, dust jacket is lightly worn with a few small tears and two white stickers on spine which read "Imperfect Copy." The owner of this book went to a local book signing for this title, met Kienzle and had him sign the book. When the owner's wife started to read the book she noticed that it went from page 26 to 59. The owner wrote to the publisher and told them about the problem, requested the missing pages and asked them if this book, because of the defect, was a "rare find." The vice president of the publishing company wrote back, apologized for the problem and said that no more than 50 books out of the run of 20,000 contained the same defect. The letter went on to say that a replacement would be sent and that to ask a rare book dealer if the defective book would have value. The owner then wrotea letter to Kienzle, telling him about the problem and asking if Kienzle would sign the enclosed card for the replacement book which he was gracious enough to do. Newspaper clippings about the author and his books, correspondence to and from the publisher, a copy of the letter from Kienzle agreeing to sign the card are all present. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY KIENZLE ON REVERSE OF THE HALF TITLE ALONG WITH AFFIXED PHOTO SHOWING KIENZLE AND THE OWNER HOLDING THIS BOOK AT THE BOOK SIGNING.
