Samuel Collingwood and Co: Oxford 1826 10 x 6.5, full dark blue morocco, raised bands, gilt ruled, lettering and inner dentelles, all edges gilt, mottled pink endpapers, unpag (approx 2" thick). Covers are scuffed/scraped, rubbing, some shelfwear, gilt is bright and sharp but is worn in some areas, front inner hinge cracked, pencil notes and ink name and date on blank pages, scattered spotting (heavier on first and last few pages), light scratches on page edges (mainly top and bottom), foredge shows a "shadow" of illustr underneath. Ink name and date is that of Charles Shaw-Lefevre "Charles Shaw Lefevre Speaker May 1839." Shaw-Lefevre, one of England's longest serving speakers of the House, served from May 1839 to March 1857. Spine reads "Common Prayer" but stamped on both covers is "The Speaker St. Margaret's Church Westminster." UNDER FORE-EDGE GILT IS A VERY DETAILED VIEW OF ST. MARGARET'S CHURCH WESTMINSTER SHOWING THE SURROUNDING BUILDINGS, PEOPLE ON THE STREET AND BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER.
