Cancelled Check to Peter White from the Iron Cliffs Company "Barnum (hard) Ore, Foster (hematite) Ore, and Pioneer Charcoal Pig Iron" of Negaunee, Mich.

Negaunee 1874 Printed by Henry Seibert & Bros., NY Oblong 3.75 x 8.5, Light wear and creasing, a few small tears, cancellation stamps/marks else good. Iron /Cliffs was incorporated on October 5, 1864 and was sold to the Cleveland Iron Mining Co. in 1891. Check boldly endorsed by Peter White on the reverse. One of the first settlers of Marquette County, White was a lawyer, banker, closely involved with several prominent mining companies, founder of a large insurance company, member of the State House of Representatives, State Senator and a member of many other political and non-political organizations and a generous donor to the Marquette County Library and the University of Michigan. His famous "goose egg" signature.
