Thomas Davison: London 1820 Cantos I & II, Thomas Davison: London 1821 Cantos III - V, John Hunt: London 1823 Cantos VI-VIII, Jo 7.25 x 4.5, volumes two, four and six have blue gray paper boards and volumes one, three and five have drab (tan) paper boards, 227, 218, 184, 151, 170, 130; errata slip volume one has half title. Covers poor, one lacks a front cover and the others almost totally lacking, cracked hinges and text blocks, a few loose signatures / detached pages, roughly cut pages, a few small tears, staining, soiling, scattered spotting, staining, creasing. It appears that there were at least three previous owners, possibly four: Geo. John Milles, ink name on free front endpapers of vols. 2 and 3, the 4th Baron of Sondes and chairman of the London, Chatham & Norfolk Railway; S.F. Cresswell, ink name on title page of vol. 1 and dated May 22, 1862, Tonbr. Castle, a schoolmaster and a reverend; Maurice Baring, bookplates on five of six volumes (volume 1 lacking the front cover else it would have been six), a well known author, biographer, novelist, poet, etc.; "M.A.W."? with ink notes in French on title page of vol 4. All pages present. The first editions were quarto, not octavo but "A NEW EDITION" is on the title page and that is not shown on our copy. Also, the first eds list the price "L1 11s 6d" on the spine label, all the vols. in this set have "7"s. An early printing. A good candidate for rebinding or for a special slipcase. Sold as is. No returns.
