Two Postcards relating to the Donner Expedition: One real photo postcard "Rare Donner Party Relics Owned and Displayed at Wohlbruck's Museum" and a color postcard "Donner Party Cross, Donner Lake, Calif., Southern Pacific, Overland Route."

3.5 x 5.5 color postcard is published by the Pacific Novelty Co., San Francisco and Los Angeles, #5943. The other postcard doesn't list the publisher. Postally unused, light wear, light corner creasing else very good. A wagon train heading to California during the winter of 1846-47 became snowbound in the Sierra Nevada. Rugged land and early snowfall contributed to the dimunition of their supplies so when members of the group sickened and died their remains were used to feed the starving settlers. In mid-December some of the men left on foot to get help; the relief party arrived in February of 1847. Sold as a pair.
