Ledger "Preston (Connecticut) June 21, 1824. Thomas Palmer Count Book."

Preston 1824-1832. 15 x 16.5, half leather, marbled boards, unpag (at least 150 pages). Covers extremely well worn, stained, rubbed, soiled, peeling, etc., spine scuffed and has a few small holes, corners bumped/worn and corner areas creased, inner hinges cracked, spotting, staining, couple of pages have small holes, a few pages neatly removed, approx 40 pages have been filled in, brief entries sometimes contain the entire or a partial year. Thomas Palmer's "Count Book" lists the names of the men he hired, what he paid them and the jobs they performed, i.e., hoeing, planting, harvesting, shucking corn, picking apples, building fences, "laying" a wall. He listed payments/purchases in the same column so we're guessing that some of the purchases were clams, rum, brandy, ginger, tea, calico, tobacco and sold milk, eggs, beans, pumpkins. Frequent wagon trips were made to Norwich; some of the other cities he visited to conduct business were Jewett City, New London, Groton, Poquetanuck. Written on the front cover: "Examined August 26, 45. E. Palmer." Nice early Connecticut history.
