np (Detroit) nd (1887?) 8.5 x 6.5, no photographer listed, edges are gilt trimmed. Light wear, gilt chipping a little, upper left corner has gilt and border worn away, light soiling else good/very good. Former Gov. John J. Bagley provided for a fountain in his will to be built on Campus Martius, the city square. It was designed by famed architect, Henry Hobson Richardson. The design was based on a small ciborium in St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice and was carved out of unpolished white granite. Gov. Bagley wished the fountain to give to the citizens ice water (ice to be provided by the city) from May through November. Various Detroit businesses can be seen in the background: Crawford's Dairy Lunch, Detroit Music Company, C.J. White House Music. From the estate of John D. Bagley, the Governor's son.
