PROMENADE DE LONGCHAMPS.

(Gardet: Paris) nd (1830s). Telescopic peepshow featuring six engraved hand colored panels, four of which are diecut and are connected at the sides by paper gussets, all of which collapse into a box that has floral panels on the sides. The other remaining panels are on the front of the box and inside the back cover of the box. Approx dimensions are 9.5 x 6.5, and expanding to 14". Box is worn, soiled, creased, chipped, light spotting, stain on back of box, peeling, missing small pieces, top strip of box is detached, one side strip is detached and missing its floral section, lower strip is replacement cardboard attached by later paper tape and is almost detached, gussets have light spotting tears, later paper tape repairs, soiling, one of the strips attached to the front cover is missing the corner section that would have been glued to the cover and the other edge of the strip has a hole. The exterior has suffered from handling but the engravings have survived with light wear intact and are in good condition and are bright and sharp. When extended the peepshow allows us to see the "Promenade de Longchamps" which shows people strolling, riding horses or traveling in a carriage. Off to one side is a lake with sailboats, a small island castle, fisherman. Charming.
