Postal Cover Addressed to James K. Polk in Washington DC with Unsigned Annotation by Polk as President.

Knoxville, TN 1847 Folded to 3.25 x 5.5, blue paper, postmarked Knoxville Sept. 15, stamped "Free," with wax seal on rear flap, pp is worn, some discolor to rear, tears at rear flap, fold else good. Polk annotates vertically on front panel at left: "Hon'l Jno H. Crozier et al recommend Maj Murphy for Asst Commisary to Tennesse Volunteers, Sep 20 1847." Crozier was a US Rep from Tennessee during Polk's term in office. Postmark and Address partially interfere with Polk's writing.
