Detroit 1897 (pre-Prohi 12" diameter, 1.25 deep, round, metal with polychrome image of a "Falstaff" type in medieval clothing and partial armor, holding a halberd in one hand and a blue and white stoneware stein in the other hand. Well used, scratched, rubbed, chipped, paint worn off along the rim and a few other small spots. Printed near the bottom (faint, but still legible), "Copyright 1897" and "Charles W. Shonk, Litho Co. Chicago No. 1075." Barely legible, near the bottom is the artist's (?) name "Wachter," first name or initial illegible. The West Side Brewery Co. (1893-1919), was one of the major breweries in Detroit, second only to Stroh's and Goebel's. It ceased operations in 1919 (due to Prohibition) and changed its name to Mundus Beverage Company and produced non-alcoholic beverages. Attractive. Scarce.
