CALLING CARD OF GEN. LEWIS CASS AS AMBASSADOR TO FRANCE, c. 1840.

Small 2 x 3.5, black outlined card with script "Mr. Cass, Charge d' Affaires des Etats Unis di Amerique pre le Saint Siege," soiled, wrinkled, with one large abrasion/adhesion mark on recto, printing light. Cass was a War of 1812 hero, the first Territorial Governor of Michigan, Secretary of War under Jackson, Senator from Michigan, Secretary of State under Buchanan, and the Democratic nominee for President in 1848.
