Knopf: NY 1927 7.75 x 5.25, striped boards w/paper label (title etc.) on the front cover, 111 pp. Covers darkened around the edges, a little bit of paint on the margins of the label, lacking spine cover, small piece of cello tape on rear boards, hinges badly cracked and covers loose, bookplate and owner's name in ink, text block cracked, loose signatures, a few small tears, occasional light spotting/soiling/staining else contents clean. This is the play from which the famous musical "Chicago" originated with the memorable characters of Roxie Hart and Billy Flynn. From the preface, which was written by George Jean Nathan, ". . . This play, the first to be published in the library. . . to be known as 'The Theatre of Today'. . . " FIRST ED.
