Cobb, Irvin S.

Original Typescript of "Good Old Silly Season," short humorous article with manuscript corrections and revisions, plus one page manuscript page with corrections signed by Irvin S. Cobb.

np 1934 Eight pages of typescript, 11 x 8.5, old rusty paper clip mark, toning, edgewear, plus one page manuscript amendation (edgetorn) plus short clipped typed replacement paragraph, corrections in red and black ink and pencil. Submitted for the June 1934 Cosmopolitan magazine, Cobb lampoons travelers (including Jimmy Walker and Samuel Insull), the President and Congress, Prohibition, Will Hays, Primo Carnera, etc. The replacement paragraph crosses out the reference to Insull, the famous Chicago Industrialist who had fled the country after the Depression had wiped out his fortune and left a wake of very angry creditors . . . By the time this Cobb story was to appear, Insull had been extradited back to the US to face prosecution. A nice look at this great American humorist's writing style.
