S. Thaxter & Son: Boston. 1880 Bound with: MEMORANDA OF USEFUL INFORMATION FOR SHIP-MASTERS ISSUED BY THE CHIEF SIGNAL OFFICER OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY. Washington: Office of The Chief Signal Officer, 1883. Illust (ads & "Memoranda") and 4 fold out charts, 9 x 6, full leather w/title blind-stamped on cover; 287, 33, 36 (ads and reference). Covers very well worn, rubbed, snagged, spotted, stained, spine rebacked, corners well worn, inner hinges repaired (linen? Buckram?) text block cracked/split, loose signatures, chipping, a few small tears, soiling/smudging, offsetting, three of the charts are detached, all have tears and spotting, one is cello tape repaired. Nice vintage bookplate of the G.W. Eldridge Co. Contained within are lists of harbors (Booth Bay, Provincetown), rivers (Kennebunk, Freeport), bays (Quahaug, Passamaquoddy) and locations of lighthouses (Rockport, Seguin Island). Although dated 1880 this book is most likely the 1882 printing since there are advertisements for 1881 and the maps are dated 1882. Sold as is.
