Mounted Albumen Photo of the Interior of Henry Ulrich's Saloon.

np (Detroit) nd (mid 1880s) Photo is approx 6 x 8.25, mount is 10 x 12. Photo has light creasing and one very small stain, tiny light spots else good, mount is poor (creased, stained, peeling, etc.), Very good detail in the photo. Shown is the bar which is manned by Henry Ulrich (?) and Mrs. Ulrich (?) and in front of the bar two gentlemen are seated with a sign advertising lunch and meal prices. The walls are covered with floral wallpaper, framed photos of drinking scenes, advertisements for Canadian Club, Stroh's Beer, Judge whiskey, Pedro cigars. Behind the bar is a mirror frosted in a swirling pattern with the name of Henry Ulrich across the center, a printed sign with Ulrich's name is above the mirror. Also shown is a grandfather clock, a calendar for Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance, a brass (?) crane, a hanging gas lamp. Henry Ulrich's saloon was in business in 1885 (possibly even 1884) up to at least 1886. By 1889-90 Ulrich was a bartender for Herman Eckner's saloon. Ulrich's former saloon at 313 Gratiot Ave had become C & L Philippsky Saloon and Concordia Hall.
