Ticknor & Co: Boston 1880 Well illustr including four frontispieces (one is a map), 35 heliotypes and numerous text illustr, 11 x 8, half leather w/ gilt decorated spines and gilt lettering on labels, marbled boards, page edges and endpapers, 596; 577; 691; 713. Cracked hinges, loose covers, rear board of vol. 2 detached, text block almost detached from vol. 1, leather scuffed/scraped and spotted, corners bumped and worn, spines darkened, tips torn and worn, labels are cracked, peeling and missing a few small pieces, marbling on page edges faded, contents have a few small tears, offsetting from newspaper clipping (present) in vol. 1 else contents good/very good. Books are heavy and most likely a main contributing factor toward the cracked hinges, etc. Some of the contributors were the editor Winsor, Edward Everett Hale, Henry Cabot Lodge. FIRST ED.
