Engravings (frontis, title pages, head-pieces, tail-pieces), 15.5 x 10, full tree calf, gilt ruled, gilt lettering on spine labels, I - XXIII, 3-557; a-e, 1-581; a-e, 1-603+index. Outer hinges cracked, covers worn, scraped, missing small pieces of leathers, stained, shelfworn, corners and spine tips bumped and worn, spine labels chipped and missing pieces, inner hinges cracked, bookplates, spotting, soiling, tears, creasing, staining, pages a little wavy, worming (quite a lot in vol. 2), some pages repaired and some of the repair paper has fallen off, vol.1 has a loose signature, vol. 3 has a hole in the rear free endpaper, majority of contents are clean esp vol. 3. Clarendon's "History" is considered the most significant account of the civil wars. FIRST ED.
